Vegvisir Systems and VyOS Networks have built and tested an SR-TE solution using Traffic Dictator as SR-TE controller and virtual routers running VyOS.

VyOS runs on commodity server hardware (x86-64/ARM), virtualized environments (VMware/KVM/Hyper-V and others) and public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP).

Network operators benefit from VyOS scalability, ease of deployment and low licensing costs.

SR-TE solution with TD and VyOS

VyOS supports Segment Routing with MPLS and SRv6. Traffic Dictator enhances VyOS SR functionality with a rich set of Traffic Engineering features:

  • CSPF based on affinity or explicit path – with most optimal segment lists in the industry
  • Path diversity (disjoint groups)
  • ECMP and anycast SID support in SR-TE policies

The solution is based on open-standard protocols such as BGP-LS and BGP-LU and provides a viable alternative to Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Huawei and other large vendor solutions; at a much lower cost and with more flexibility.
